Residents of Jos, the capital of Plateau, have rejected the judgment of the Court of Appeal that sacked Governor Caleb Mutfwang. The residents called for the review of all the judgements delivered by the court on the Plateau elections during a peaceful protest on Sunday in Jos. Candidates of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba have won the chairmanship seats in all 16 local government areas in the just-concluded local government elections in the state. Philip Duwe, the chairman of the Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC), disclosed this on Sunday while declaring the results of Saturday’s election at the commission’s headquarters in Jalingo. Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), BudgIT and 34 concerned Nigerians have filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu over “the appointment of at least four members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and allies of high-ranking politicians as new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).” The Senate has confirmed the appointment of seven out of 10 newly appointed RECs for INEC. Four male adults were seriously injured in an accident involving a Lexus car on Liasu Road in the Idimu area of Lagos State. According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Chronicle NG, the incident occurred about 5 a.m. on Sunday. The car was claimed to be travelling at full speed when it lost control, drove off the road, and crashed into a store opposite a Catholic church along the axis. Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, says the federal government is exploring the possibility of establishing coast guards to ensure security on the nation’s coastline. The federal government says it has suspended Tajudeen Balogun, the Acting Director, Administration at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-Ife, Osun State, over his involvement in a job racketeering saga in the institution. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare spokesperson, Patricia Deworitshe, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. A Court of Appeal in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital has sacked Governor Caleb Muftwang of Plateau State and declared Dr Nentawe Yilwatda as the 2023 Plateau Governorship election winner. Muftwang, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 18 governorship election was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission but the Yilwatda and the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenged his victory. The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ohanenye, instituted a suit against a couple, Ifeanyi Enwelum and Christabel Enwelum, on Thursday in Enugu over the breach of rights and defilement of their nine-year-old daughter. Counsel to the minister, Chuma Oguejiofor, told journalists on Saturday that the suit, number E/987/2023, was filed at the Enugu State High Court to enforce the fundamental rights of the minor.
