Academic activities were on Monday at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) following the students’ protest against the 100 percent hike in tuition fees. A chief magistrates’ court in Ikeja on Monday ordered the remand of a 35-year-old man, Idowu Shoyede, who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s 16-year-old daughter. The police charged Mr Shoyede, of Oredola Street, Iju Ishaga, Lagos, with defilement. The magistrate, E. Kubeinje, who did not take Mr Shoyede’s plea, ordered the police to duplicate the case file and send the same to the office of Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice. The Nigerian Air Force has denied claims that residents were killed inadvertently during an air attack in Kaduna.
