FG issues flood alert as Jebba Dam spills excess water

Floods in Nigeria’s northeastern Borno state have displaced up to one million people, according to the state governor, as authorities try to rescue residents and place them in temporary shelters. The flooding started when a dam spilt after heavy rains, destroying a state-owned zoo and bringing crocodiles and snakes into flooded neighbourhoods. Diphtheria strikes children in Kaduna community

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has recorded about 12,085 suspected cases of diphtheria infections as of September 11, 2024. The NCDC, however, said that out of the suspected cases, 7,784 were confirmed in 170 local government areas across 21 states. The centre announced this at a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja.
