A Lagos Federal High Court, today, convicted two men, Uche Johnson and Kingsley Meteke, for producing and distributing substandard engine oil. The court presided over by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyibo convicted them after they pleaded guilty to the offence and admitted to have adulterated 128 drums and 9.45 litres of engine oil. She sentenced them to two years imprisonment each. They were charged with four counts of production, possession, dealing in and distribution of substandard engine oil. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, never directed that the fifth edition of reality television show, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) be shut down, an official in the ministry has disclosed. Reports had claimed that he had directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to shut down the Big Brother House, which is the facility hosting the show. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 591 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Friday. The 591 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 39539. A two-storey building has collapsed in Ebute Metta area of Lagos on Friday trapping residents inside and leaving some injured. As at the time of filing this report, the building situated opposite the health centre along Cemetery street in Ebute Metta has caved in. Operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) are currently trying to rescue the residents. The collapsed building houses shops and other residential apartments. Gabriel Adekola Oluokun, 30, was on Thursday sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court, Ibadan, Oyo State for defrauding a Taiwanese to the tune of $22,300. The convict was prosecuted by the Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on a six-count amended charge of obtaining money by false pretence for which he was found guilty and convicted.
