Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says there is the need to broaden and enhance the efficacy of the Federal Government’s whistleblower policy, adding that, there should be an expansion of the scope of the current framework. The Senate on Tuesday received a request from President Muhammadu Buhari for the confirmation of eight Justices of the Court of Appeal as Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The request which was contained in a letter dated 31st August, 2020, was read on the floor during plenary by the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan. The Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has commenced investigation of 11 suspected illegal oil bunkerers handed over to it by the Nigerian Navy. The suspects were handed over to the EFCC on Monday, September 28, 2020 by the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, Bonny, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after being arrested for suspected involvement in illegal oil bunkering. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed reports that claimed that N2.67 billion was diverted from the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme. The anti-graft agency noted that the missing money was that which was budgeted for boarding schools that were shut during the COVID-19 lockdown. A London commercial court Tuesday ordered the release of the $200million guarantee put in place as security for the stay of execution granted Nigeria for the appeal filed against the judgment of Justice Butcher for the execution of the Arbitral award of $10bn in favour of a firm based in the British Virgin Islands, Process & Industrial Development. A Chinese court has sentenced a nursery teacher to death for poisoning 25 children, one of whom died. Wang Yun was arrested last year after children at a kindergarten in Jiaozuo city were rushed to hospital after eating their morning porridge. The court said she put sodium nitrite in the breakfast of her colleague’s students for revenge after a fallout. It described Ms Wang as “despicable and vicious”.
