The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 118 confirmed new coronavirus cases in the country on Tuesday. The 118 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 59,583. The NCDC also announced the discharge of 357 patients from isolation centers across the country with one new death reported. The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), arrested 1,091 traffic offenders in its ‘Operation Show your Driver’s Licence’ exercise, in the past seven days, its Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, has said. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved new emergency aid for 28 of the world’s poorest countries to help them alleviate their debt and better cope with the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. The announcement, which follows a similar measure passed in mid-April for 25 countries, is intended to help the countries cover their debt repayments to the IMF for the next six months and “free up scarce financial resources for vital emergency medical and other relief efforts” during the pandemic.
