Hoodlums on Thursday invaded the National Correctional Service Centre in Okitipupa, Ondo State, forcefully released the inmates. It was gathered that no fewer than 58 inmates were released during the attack while one vehicle was burnt. It was also learnt that the hoodlums destroyed several items in the premises of the prison. Soldiers and policemen have foiled an attempted jail break at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre on Thursday, the interior ministry has said. The ministry said no inmates have escaped from the correctional facility, urging citizens to ignore such rumours. “The situation at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre is under control,” the interior ministry said, adding that, “the armed squad of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Police Force and men of the Nigerian Army are providing security at the facility. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos has explained that the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) installed at the Lekki toll gate was not removed on Tuesday before the Nigerian soldiers shot at protesters.
