Official figures published on Saturday by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicates that Nigeria has entered its second recession in five years. The figures further reveal that the economy shrank again in the third quarter of this year. It was gathered that this year’s recession, occasioned by the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, is worse than that of 2016. The Federal Government on Friday offered leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) N65 billion for Earned Academic Allowance and revitalisation. State governors of Osun and Oyo states, Adegboyega Oyetola and Seyi Makinde, Friday agreed to cancel the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH) and Ladoke Akintola College of Health. Subsequently, the institution’s teaching hospital, which is based in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, will be solely the responsibility of the Osun State Government. The Nigeria Police Force on Friday said the nine police officers abducted by gunmen on their way from Maiduguri to Zamfara State recently have been rescued. Twelve police officers were said to have been kidnapped while on their way to Gusau in Zamfara from Maiduguri.
