The founder of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, has been arrested on Monday at the Federal High Court in Abuja as the trial of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu commenced. According to eyewitnesses, Sowore who flouted his bail conditions was arrested on the court premises during a Facebook Live. The Nigerian government is trying Kanu on 11 charges which include terrorism and treason. At the resumption of his trial, tight security enveloped the court premises. The Nigerian government can try proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu under stealth circumstances, sections of the Nigerian law has revealed. Nigeria’s Terrorism Act of 2013 gives the court the powers to conduct such trial under more restrictive circumstances as is the case in certain parts of the country.
