Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) and chairman, National Judicial Council (NJC), Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, will Monday grill six chief judges over conflicting court orders that emanated from their states. Already, the CJN has demanded the records of proceedings in all the suits from which the conflicting ex parte orders emanated. I came across a Cable News Network, CNN, interview with a man identified as the Ugandan Minister of Internal Affairs. It was anchored by the network’s North American Correspondent, Larry Madowo, who clearly was being threatened. Madowo, a Kenyan journalist who had also worked for the British Broadcasting Corporation, BBC, had to go into hiding in 2018 when he had a disagreement with the Kenyan government over press freedom. Guinean special forces on Sunday announced the arrest of President Alpha Condé in a statement broadcast on state TV as uncertainty gripped the West African nation amid reports of heavy gunfire around the presidential palace in the capital, Conakry. The Taliban said on Sunday their forces had fought their way into the provincial capital of the Panjshir valley, their latest claim of progress in fighting against opposition forces holding out in the area north of Kabul.
