The Queen of England has approved the appointment of a Nigerian-born medical doctor as the first black Bishop of the Church of England. The government of the UK’s website said the new Bishop, the Reverend Prebendary Dr Woyin Karowei Dorgu was announced on Tuesday. The Gambia’s top court has adjourned until January 10, a case filed by President Yahya Jammeh, who is seeking to annul the results of the presidential elections. The Supreme Court, presided by Nigerian-born Chief Justice Emmanuel Fagbenle, ordered the adjournment. Security forces in Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday killed at least 34 people during protests this week against President Joseph Kabila’s failure to step down at the end of his mandate, Human Rights Watch said. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has said that the reported killing of protesters by security forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), was deplorable. A Canadian woman who authorities say managed to hide her 4-year-old pet cat Bella in her handbag during a flight across the Pacific Ocean had her vacation cut short when border agents discovered the ruse at Auckland Airport.
