The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) have agreed to forge a partnership to combat the menace of pipeline vandalism and other sundry challenges in the petroleum industry. The two organisations came to this position during a visit to the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru, by the management of NAN led by its Managing Director, Mr Bayo Onanuga. The Nigeria Army has confirmed that 112 persons were killed in January’s accidental airstrike at the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camp in Rann, Borno State. The Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj-Gen. Lucky Irabor, in Maiduguri, said 97 persons were injured in the attack but did not specify the number of IDPs killed. He also revealed that 26 foreigners that had contacts with Boko Haram were apprehended in the last one month by the troops of the Command. Former Delta State governor, James Ibori is appealing against his British conviction for corruption, claiming the Metropolitan Police investigation was itself mired in corruption. Ibori was released in December after four years in a British prison, but prosecutors have since admitted they have documents suggesting police officers involved in the case took bribes. The Commissioner of Police in Imo, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, said the command and the Nigeria Prisons Service had intensified efforts to re-arrest Henry Chibuzor aka “Vampire”, a notorious gang leader and kidnapping kingpin.
