Gbenga Ogundele aka Benson Ogundele, 58, of Laurel, Maryland has been sentenced to 234 months in prison over conspiracy to commit wire fraud and money laundering arising from a scheme to defraud vulnerable victims of millions of dollars. Ogundele’s wife Moji Popoola, aka Mojisola Oluwakemi Tin Popoola/Moji T. Popoola, 42, also of Laurel, was sentenced to 18 months in prison. Both sentences will be followed by three years of supervised release. United States District Judge, Paul W. Grimm also convicted Ogundele of aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme. Senator Dino Melaye is heading for the election tribunal

Senator Dino Melaye’s country home at Ayetoro-Gbede in Kogi state was shelled by gunmen early Saturday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), gathered that the gunmen surrounded the house after midnight and opened fire from different directions. Two of the senator’s vehicles parked in the house were damaged. The senator was not harmed. Melaye, (APC-Kogi West), was in his country home at Ayetoro-Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area for the Easter holiday at the time of the attack. Director-General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Dakuku Peterside has questioned the mental status of Governor Nyesom Wike after claiming that the $45m found at a residence in Ikoyi, Lagos State belong to Rivers State Government. Jigawa Rainstorm has destroyed no fewer than 1000 houses in Kano

One person lost his life while several houses were destroyed following a heavy down pour in Kura local government area of Kano state. One of the victims, Malam Lawan Salisu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Saturday that the incident happened on Wednesday night. No fewer than seven people have died and seven hospitalized in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi when a boat carrying 150 passengers returning from Malali Market capsized along River Niger. An Egyptian court sentenced former interior minister Habib al-Adly to seven years in prison for corruption on Saturday, in one of the last cases against Hosni Mubarak-era officials following his 2011 overthrow.
