Unknown gunmen have kidnapped a medical Doctor attached to the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH). The victim, Dr, Itoro Asanga according to eyewitness was abducted Wednesday night. Joey Barton’s 18-month ban from football for breaching Football Association betting rules has been reduced to 13 months and one week on appeal. Barton, 34, appealed the length of his suspension after he admitted placing more than 1,200 bets over a ten-year period against FA rules. The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted contraband valued at N54.46 million. The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Mohammed Aliyu, made this known on Thursday in a statement issued by Mr Taupyen Selchang, the command’s Public Relations Officer in Lagos. Aliyu said that the seized items include: 3,200 bags of rice and 1,000 cartons of frozen poultry products. A sixty-two-year old prophetess identified as Mrs Mary Ezeugo has been allegedly beaten to death by her son, Ekene Ezeogo after a serious argument that took place at their place of residence, at No 24 Agbaja Road in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi state capital. The Federal High Court Abuja on Thursday fixed August 7 to hear the suit that stopped the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from going ahead with the process of a senator, Dino Melaye’s recall. The suit which was originally adjourned till September 29, will now be heard on August 7. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba said he was minded to exercise his discretion to hear the matter within the court’s vacation period.
