INEC resumes nationwide voter registration as second phase begins

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa, Alhaji Kasim Gaidam, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) said. Gaidam told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Tuesday that the exercise was initially stopped following Boko Haram attacks on villages in the area. He said the registration followed intensive stakeholders’ meeting between security agencies, government officials and elders from the area. Anti-discrimination group Kick It Out has contacted Manchester United to ask them to stop the club’s fans singing a “racist” chant about Romelu Lukaku. President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, says Nigerian Army’s branding of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as a terrorist organisation is unconstitutional. Also unconstitutional, according to him, is the proscription of the group by the governors of South-East states. Humanitarian medical organisation, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) say about 48 persons have died of cholera since the outbreak of the disease last month in Borno state. The organisation otherwise called Doctors without Borders, said that 2, 627 cases of the disease were recorded by the state ministry of health.
