President Jacob Zuma of South Africa says President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe is fine, confirming that the 93-year old is confined to home by the military. The military took control of Zimbabwe on Wednesday. After seizing state TV, an army spokesman announced it was targeting people close to Mr Mugabe. Zimbabwe’s military has seized state TV, saying it is targeting people close to President Robert Mugabe for causing “social and economic suffering”. A statement read out by a general on air denied it was a coup and said Mr Mugabe was safe, but did not say where. The non-binding postal vote showed 61.6% of people favour allowing same-sex couples to wed, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said. A federal High Court, Lagos, has granted an order temporarily freezing N350 million belonging to AM-PM Global Network Limited, alleged to have been secretly hidden in an account with Stanbic-IBTC Bank by former First Lady, Patience Jonathan. Justice Hadiza Rabiu-Shagari ordered the temporary freezing of the account following an ex-parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and argued by its counsel, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo. Zimbabwe’s ruling party has accused the country’s army chief of “treasonable conduct” after he warned of a possible military intervention in politics. General Constantino Chiwenga had challenged President Robert Mugabe after he sacked the vice-president. Gen Chiwenga said the army was prepared to act to end purges within Mr Mugabe’s Zanu-PF party. At least five people are dead following a shooting at multiple locations in Tehama County including a local elementary school, where at least two children were wounded. Authorities described a chaotic scene in which a gunman appear to pick target randomly in the rural Northern California county.
