Tongans have been rushing to vaccinate themselves against coronavirus after the Pacific island nation confirmed its first case on Friday. The infection was detected in a fully vaccinated person who had arrived on a repatriation flight from New Zealand. U.S. intelligence agencies said on Friday they may never be able to identify the origins of COVID-19, as they released a new, more detailed version of their review of whether the coronavirus came from animal-to-human transmission or leaked from a lab. The Gombe State government has suspended the payment of salaries of 781 workers for being absent from work in the month of September. Muhammad Gambo Magaji, the state’s commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, stated this at the monthly news conference on Implementation of the Biometric Attendance Verification for Civil Servants, on Friday in Gombe. Magaji said another 820 workers were to be investigated, adding that the state government saved N50 million from the suspension of salaries of the affected workers for the month. President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after attending an economic summit in Saudi Arabia. The National Examinations Council (NECO) has revealed that 23,003 of the candidates who wrote the examination were involved in examination malpractices. This was announced by the NECO Registrar and Chief Executive Prof Ibrahim Wushishi, in Minna, Niger state. Wushishi apologised to Nigerians for the delay in the release of the results. He revealed that 878,925 candidates made five credits and above including Mathematics and English language. The United Nations (UN) has pledged continuous partnership with the Nigerian Army in tackling security challenges in the country and the Sahel region.
