The official portrait of former US president, Barack Obama and that of his wife Michelle was unveiled at Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC. Mr Obama said his portrait by Kehinde Wiley, who is known for his Old Master-style depiction of African-Americans, was “pretty sharp”. “Wow!” said Mrs Obama of her painting by Amy Sherald, another black artist, whose work addresses social justice. The Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, has approved the voluntary delisting of Seven-Up Bottling Company after it received a takeover bid from its majority shareholder aimed at restructuring the soft drinks bottler. The stock exchange, which suspended trading in the company’s shares in January, said in a notice that it approved the delisting last week. In January, Seven-Up’s minority shareholders backed a $70 million buyout bid by majority investor Affelka, the investment firm of the Lebanese El-Khalil family. Nigerian shares shed 1.5 per cent on Monday in late trades to drop to one month low as investors sold off shares from the relatively liquid banking sector. Two fetish priests from Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region of Ghana died after drinking a mixture of ogogoro (a locally-brewed gin) and herbs. The ‘priests’ also took some herbs at Senease in the Berekum Municipality. Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested Mr. Kasim Lamido, the manager of Lamido Petroleum, a filling station in New Nyanya, Nasarawa State, for diverting 26,000 litres of petrol. A statement signed by Mr Ndu Ughamadu, NNPC spokesman on Monday in Abuja noted the arrest validated NNPC claim on petrol diversion by some marketers.
