The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, ordered the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to remand Mr Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman, Pension Reform Task Team in the Correctional Service centre pending the determination of the case. Justice Okon Abang, who gave the order adjourned the matter till Oct. 30 for commencement of trial. A hunter in the US state of Arkansas has died after being gored by a deer he had just tried to kill. Thomas Alexander, 66, was hunting near the Ozark mountains when he shot the buck and watched it collapse. Assuming the animal was dead, Mr Alexander went to check on the body – at which point the deer stood back up and attacked him. A lovesick German teenager outdid Shakespeare’s Romeo by scaling a 4m (13ft) prison wall and climbing up to his ex-girlfriend’s barred window. But the 18-year-old refused to come down and the fire brigade in northern Germany used a ladder to rescue him. Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two Russian firms for the modernisation and development of railway infrastructure. The MoU also covers the rehabilitation of existing Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) rolling stock-fleet and upgrading of workshops across the country. US Federal prosecutors said an Atlanta, Georgia-based Nigerian, Olufolajimi Abegunde has been sentenced to more than six years in prison for his role in an internet fraud scheme that stole an estimated $15m through computer and wire fraud. The US attorney’s office in Memphis, Tennessee, said on Thursday that the 32-year-old Abegunde was sentenced Tuesday for wire fraud, the second Nigerian to be sentenced in less than a week. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the Federal Government to review and improve the capacity of the Integrated Personal Payroll System (IPPIS) to make it flexible before enrolling universities. Prof. Theophilus Lagi, the ASUU Coordinator, Abuja chapter, made the appeal at a news conference in Gwagwalada on Thursday. He explained that lack of flexibility of IPPIS had made it inappropriate and incapacitated to address the peculiarity in the University system. A German court on Thursday sentenced an 80-year-old man to seven-year imprisonment for series of bank robberies over a decade. The bank staff targeted by the man had endured considerable psychological suffering, presiding Judge, Hannes Breucker, said in Hechingen, south-west Germany. The man admitted to targeting a number of banks over the years between 2009 and 2019, using the same method.
