The National Assembly has indicated interest in amending the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) to provide for a smooth transition of legislative powers from an outgoing to an incoming National Assembly. The National Assembly also seeks to reinforce, through constitutional amendment, the powers of the President to dissolve the outgoing National Assembly and convene the first session as contained in the National Assembly bill, 2019. The decision to amend the Constitution in this direction was reached after consideration of the National Assembly Inauguration bill, 2019, which was eventually stood down on Wednesday in the Senate…
Nigeria is producing 1.6 million to 1.7 million barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil, the chief operating officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC said on Wednesday, adding that the country would continue to comply with OPEC output cuts. “The last quota put us at 1.7 million bpd and we are committed to that threshold … our current production with the cuts is between 1.6 and 1.7 million barrels per day for November,” Roland Ewubare said on the margins of an oil conference in the United Arab Emirates. Nigeria’s output of crude and condensate is at two million…

The Nigerian Senate has called for a five-year ban on the importation of textile materials into Nigeria so that the local sector can flourish. The submission was made after the Senate President Ahmad Lawan noted that Nigeria can overcome the challenges posed by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement entered into by the Federal Government. He argued that local producers must live up to the billing of the forces of a competitive market. According to Lawan, until Nigeria addresses the issue of unsteady power supply and smuggling, there’s little that can be achieved through the closure of its borders to…
