A notorious gang that kidnapped three University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) students, on 7 April, gang-raped the female among them, one of the suspect has said. They then went further to butcher her to death, as well as kill her two colleagues, Chronicle NG has learnt. The female Uniport student was identified as Joy Adoki. The other students were Nelson Nwafor and Fortune Obemba. Ms Adoki was a 400 level student of Management Department when she was declared missing in March. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced the single highest number of COVID-19 cases since coronavirus pandemic broke out in the country. The 238 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control is 34 cases more than the 204 announced on Thursday taking the new total to 2170. The founder of DAAR Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi and his daughter-in-law along with six members of his family have tested positive for Coronavirus. This is coming 3 days after his son and Chairman of the board of the company, Raymond Dokpesi Jnr also tested positive for the virus. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Tijjani Aliyu, on Friday urged residents to return any food item unfit for consumption distributed to them as palliative. Death toll in the building collapse along Yar’Adua Drive in Owerri has risen to 15. The latest casualty figure was given by Mr Evans Ugoh, Head of the Imo/Abia State Operations Office of the National Emergency Management Agency. Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has slashed the salaries of senior political appointees by 50 per cent. Makinde, who disclosed this on Friday during the Workers’ Day celebration held at the Labour House in Ibadan, said this was to ensure the economic safety of other workers in the state. Lagos State has discharged 26 more COVID-19 patients from its isolation centres. Lagos governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced this on Friday. The Ekiti Government on Friday ordered compulsory certification of corpses transported to the state in order to determine their medical history. The Coordinator of the State Covid 19 Task Force, Prof. Bolaji Aluko, announced this in Ado Ekiti while giving an update on the fight against the pandemic.
