Since the death of late dictator, General Sani Abacha, Nigeria has received $3.61 billion of the money looted by his military government with the latest being the $311m returned by the US and the British dependency of Jersey. Under a repatriation agreement the money is to be spent on infrastructure projects in Nigeria despite the country battling the coronavirus pandemic. General Abacha ruled Nigeria for five years from 1993 until his death in 1998. The Federal Government of Nigeria has hinted that a lockdown of the country is likely following Monday’s disobedience of protocols after restrictions were lifted partially. It was the first day after the easing of the shutdown to contain the spread of coronavirus in Abuja, Lagos and Ogun states. Nigerian Pastor TB Joshua has revealed his position regarding asking for monetary offerings through his popular Christian television channel Emmanuel TV. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced the single highest number of coronavirus cases in the country since the index case was announced. The 245 cases announced by the Centre for Disease Control takes the total number of confirmed cases to 2802.
