Arsenal get 2-1 stoppage time victory over Wolves

Premier League leaders Arsenal secured a dramatic stoppage-time win against last-placed Wolves at Emirates Stadium thanks to Yerson Mosquera’s own goal.

The Gunners often found themselves frustrated by a resolute five-man Wolves defense and had to wait until the 70th minute to score, when Bukayo Saka’s bending corner was tipped onto the post by Sam Johnstone and the ball ricocheted off the goalkeeper’s back to give them the advantage.

Arsenal felt tense while trying to secure the victory, which enabled Wolves to deliver several crosses into the area before Mateus Mane assisted Tolu Arokodare to score with a header in the 90th minute.

Fans were visibly distressed as it seemed Arsenal had given title challengers Manchester City the opportunity to equal their points against Crystal Palace on Sunday—just before the concluding moment in the late suspense.

Saka cut in from the right and curled a cross toward substitute Gabriel Jesus, and Mosquera, attempting to head clear, deflected the ball past his own keeper to the unrestrained joy—and huge relief—of the home fans.

“It was a rollercoaster,” Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told BBC Match of the Day. “The longer the game went on, the more hope they had, and we had to accelerate our game and take more risks.

“We did find a way, and that’s a very positive thing; if not, we’d be very frustrated, and rightly so, but there are things to improve, obviously.”

The victory means the Gunners are five points clear of Manchester City and can focus on a tough trip to Everton next week.
