The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won the polling unit of Rauf Aregbesola, former Osun governor, in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
Aregbesola, who was a former minister of interior, defected from the APC in 2025 to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and later became the party’s national secretary.
A review of the result sheets on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s IReV platform shows that Bola Oyebamiji, the APC candidate, polled 256 votes to win at PU001, Coop. Building Junction, Isare, Ward 08, in Ilesa East LGA.
Ademola Adeleke, the incumbent governor and Accord candidate, came second with 43 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the ADC finished third with 13 votes.
The result is a huge blow to the ADC, whose candidate is backed by Aregbesola, one of the party’s prominent figures in Osun.
He was Osun governor from 2010 to 2018 on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and later the APC, which he helped establish in 2013.
