    Amusan, Brume, 47 others shortlisted for African Games

    The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) announced on Monday the final list of 50 athletes to represent Nigeria in the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana, including global 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, and Ruth Usoro.

    Okon Israel and Consider Ekanem, the incumbent national champions in the 100m and 200m for men, are also on the list, as is Enoch Adegoke, a Tokyo 2020 Olympic 100m finalist.

    Itshekiri Usheoritse, Seye Ogunlewe, Alaba Akintola, and Adekalu Fakorede will represent Nigeria in the men’s 100m, 400m, 800m, and 4x400m events, while Olajide Olayinka, Blessing Ogundiran, Justina Eyakpobeyan, Abinusawa Moforehan, Onyebuchi Chisom, and Amusan will represent the country in the women’s 200m and 4x100m events.

    For the women’s 400m and 4x400m, Patience Okon-George, Esther Joseph, Brittany Ogunmokun, Okon Esther, Yetunde Saibu, and Omolara Ogunmakinju were listed by the AFN.

    In addition to Amusan, Faith Osamuyi and Stella Ayanleke will compete in the 100-metre hurdles. Comfort Anietie and Ronke Akanbi have been named to the 800m and 1500m races, respectively, while Akanbi and Ewa Peace will represent Nigeria in the 3,000m steeplechase and high jump.

    Brume, Ruth Usoro, and Pristina Ochonogor were named as long jump competitors, with Usoro also competing in the triple jump.

    Sade Olatoye competes in shot put and hammer, while Chioma Onyekwere, Ashley Anumba, and Obiageri Pamela want to win medals in discus throw.

    Victoria Kparika will try to win the javelin, while Kemi Petersen will compete in the heptathlon.

    Dubem Nwachukwu, Ojeli Ifeanyi, Nathaniel Ezekiel, Chidi Okezie, Sikiru Adeyemi, Nathaniel Samson, and Daniel Atinaya will compete in the men’s 400m and 4x400m races.

    Ibadan Ebose will compete in the 800m, while Hamid Sambo and Musa Wisdom will run the 1,500m and 110m hurdles, respectively at the African Games in Ghana.
