Tobi Amusan has apologized for her dismal display in the 100-meter hurdles final at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, on Thursday night.
Amusan, who lost the world women’s 100-metre hurdles title to Jamaica’s Danielle Williams, stated that qualifying for the final was difficult.
She apologized to all of her fans around the world for disappointing them with her poor performance and promised to return stronger.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen after the race, Amusan stated that it was quite “a journey getting into the final” despite all the controversies that surrounded her recently.
“I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has been supporting me through the ups and downs. You all stood by me and kept praying for me. God bless you all. I am sorry I might have let you all down, but we will come back stronger.
“Yeah, it’s a tough one; nobody likes to lose, but considering what I have gone through in the past couple of months, I’m so grateful that I came out,” she said.
Williams, 30, who earlier won in Beijing in 2015, ran 12.43 seconds to beat off Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico (12.44 seconds), with Kendra Harrison of the United States getting bronze (12.46 seconds).
