Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has denounced the killing of two Kano State indigenes by alleged youths in Makurdi’s Agan community.

The victims, who were hauling products to the country’s east, were attacked and killed at 11 p.m. on Monday after parking their truck to purchase a recharge card, according to a security source.

“They parked in the Agan community to get a recharge card when some youths attacked and killed them,” the source said.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, the governor described the act as “barbaric and unacceptable”, ordering the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

“Five criminals have been swiftly apprehended in Makurdi by the police following the governor’s directive,” the statement confirmed.

Alia expressed sadness over the incident, emphasising that the people of Benue are known for peace and hospitality.

“We cannot allow some criminal elements to tarnish our image. These criminals must be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law,” he said.

The governor extended his condolences to his Kano State counterpart, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and assured the people of Kano that the culprits will be apprehended and made to face the wrath of the law.
