    Aircraft carrying senator Jimkuta en route to Taraba develops fault mid-air

    A private aircraft conveying Aircraft carrying Taraba senator develops fault mid-air David Jimkuta made an emergency return to Abuja shortly after take-off following a technical fault.

    The incident occurred on Saturday while the senator was travelling to Kashimbila Airport.

    In a statement released by the senator’s office, Jimkuta was said to be heading to Takum and Wukari for official engagements.

    He was scheduled to attend the 2026 Zion Conference in Takum and also pay a condolence visit at the St Mary’s Cathedral after a recent fire incident at the church.

    According to the statement, the aircraft departed Abuja after an earlier delay caused by unfavourable weather conditions.

    However, about six minutes into the flight, an alarm sounded in the cockpit, prompting the pilot to alert passengers to a technical issue.

    The pilot immediately turned the aircraft back to Abuja in line with aviation safety procedures.

    “Acting with professionalism and in line with aviation safety protocols, the pilot immediately turned the aircraft back to Abuja, where it landed safely,” the statement said.

    Among those on board the aircraft were Magaji Jirape, Istifanus Gbana, and Adi Shekarau Masa-Ibi.

    “All passengers and crew members returned safely to Abuja, and we thank God for His mercy and preservation,” the statement added.

    Jimkuta also expressed gratitude to God for sparing the lives of everyone on board.

    “Senator Jimkuta expresses profound gratitude to Almighty God for sparing their lives,” the statement noted.

    The senator’s office said details of the rescheduled visit to Taraba State would be communicated later.
