Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, has expressed reservations over the sexual harassment allegations levelled by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing them as containing “significant inconsistencies.”

Speaking during a press briefing at his Apapa Chambers in Lagos on Tuesday, Agbakoba, who is serving as legal counsel to Akpabio, emphasized his interest in uncovering the truth behind the allegation.

He stated, “Allegation of sexual harassment is a serious matter that deserves careful handling.”

While noting the sensitivity of such claims, the legal luminary added, “We acknowledge the difficulty faced by anyone making such an allegation and the importance of treating all parties with dignity.”

Agbakoba explained that his law firm, Olisa Agbakoba Legal (OAL), accepted the case in a conciliatory manner, highlighting his personal understanding of the issue.

“I have three daughters and, so, understand the gravity of sexual harassment. I am ready to meet with Akpoti-Uduaghan and her lawyers on the issue,” he said.

He further clarified that OAL’s involvement is purely focused on the legal dimensions of the case. “Sexual harassment allegations, particularly in governance institutions, require careful handling not only for the parties involved but also for the integrity of our democratic institutions,” Agbakoba noted.

He called for due process, stressing that the matter should be handled through proper institutional frameworks rather than trial by media.

“Sexual harassment is serious. Also is presumption of innocence. Let the facts lead, not sentiment,” he concluded.
