Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has pledged to restore normal operations in local government councils across the state, which have been grounded since February 17 following a lingering power tussle between the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.

Speaking in Osogbo on Thursday during a reception organised in his honour by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party at the party’s State Secretariat, Adeleke assured residents that his administration would end the crisis and return local governments to full functionality.

The dispute arose after the Akure Court of Appeal, in a February 10, 2025 ruling, reinstated APC-backed officials elected during the October 15, 2022 local government elections but earlier sacked by a Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo in November 2022. However, the PDP has maintained that its chairmen and councillors elected in the February 22, 2025 polls remain the rightful managers of the councils.

Addressing thousands of supporters, Adeleke likened his political struggles to biblical battles, insisting that his opponents were unsettled by his government’s achievements.

He declared: “We will get our local government back and running. They want to hold Osun down. They are shocked with our delivery and transformation of Osun; They want to keep Osun from developing.

“Will you allow them Great members of PDP and good people of Osun state, should we go to the past again? Should we return to bad governance again?

“We must sustain good governance. We must sustain the tempo. The good work must continue. Osun people are with us. God is with us. We shall overcome the Pharaohs facing us. We will get our local government back and running. They want to hold Osun down.

“They are shocked with our delivery and transformation of Osun; They want to keep Osun from developing. Will you allow them?”

The governor further urged party members to mobilise grassroots support, participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise, and encourage others to register for their Permanent Voter Cards.

In their separate remarks, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Wale Egbedun, and the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi, called on PDP members to remain steadfast, support Adeleke’s administration, and actively take part in the CVR ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
