Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, an African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, has urged the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to consider former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi as his running mate for the 2027 general election.
Eze believes Amaechi’s political experience and role in previous electoral victories make him a strong candidate for the vice presidency.
“You need Amaechi now because the way he managed the campaign that ousted a sitting president (Goodluck Jonathan) proves that he is not a figure any serious-minded fellow in pursuit of the exalted office of the president of this country can ignore,” he said.
He noted that Amaechi’s leadership credentials, political structure and support base position him as a suitable choice for the role.
“I have seen some of the recommendations being presented before you. While they are great, I must state that if Amaechi is not selected, it may have dire consequences on our common vision,” he added.
Eze further stated that excluding Amaechi could alienate some supporters within the ADC fold.
In the statement issued on Wednesday, Eze also commended Atiku for his efforts towards unifying the party following its presidential primary, describing his outreach to former rivals as a sign of leadership and inclusiveness.
“By visiting Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and Alhaji Hayatu-Deen, your main contenders for the ADC presidential ticket, you have proven that you are a team player,” he said.
He said Atiku’s emergence as the party’s flagbearer reflected his long-standing commitment to democratic governance and national development, adding that his experience would inspire confidence among Nigerians seeking political stability and progress.
