The two female students who were kidnapped from the Federal University of Technology, FUTO, in Owerri following the brutal murder of a branch bank manager, Mr. Ossy, last Sunday have been released.
In a statement sent to journalists on Friday, the university’s public relations officer, Orakwe Ezugwu, stated that the students had been released.
According to him, the two students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support from the University Medical Center.
Professor Ikechukwu Dozie, the vice-chancellor, has already visited and talked with the students.
According to the PRO, the school administration praised the Nigerian Police and other security services for their quick response.
He further stated that the university was safe.
The statement read, “The management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, has confirmed the safe release of the two female students who were abducted during the gruesome killing of a branch bank manager, Mr. Ossy, last Sunday.
“The management assures students, staff, parents, and the university community that additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies.
“Members of the university community are urged to remain calm and vigilant and report any suspicious activity,” the statement read.
Recall that an Owerri-based Polaris Bank branch manager was killed down by gunmen on Sunday while attempting to resist kidnapping on the school premises. He had gone to drop off his children when the incident occurred.
