The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has formally declared his intention to seek a fifth term in the House of Representatives under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
The declaration ceremony took place at the Mallawa Eid Ground in Zaria on Saturday and drew a large crowd of supporters, who staged a solidarity walk across major parts of the city before gathering at the venue.
Abbas, who has represented Zaria Federal Constituency since 2011, said his decision to seek re-election was based on his performance record, constituency development projects and commitment to the people.
“Today, I formally declare my intention to seek another mandate to represent the good people of Zaria Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. This declaration is not based on promises alone. It is based on work. It is based on results,” he said.
He added that continuity was necessary to sustain development efforts in the constituency.
“This is not the time for uncertainty. This is not the time for experiments. This is the time to consolidate the progress we have made together,” Abbas stated.
The Speaker said his administration had focused on youth empowerment, support for traders and farmers, educational investments and community development.
According to him, more than 2,400 constituents received direct financial support, while thousands of students benefited from scholarship programmes valued at about N5 billion.
Abbas also highlighted the Education City project in Zaria, estimated at about N80 billion, describing it as part of broader efforts to improve access to education and drive development in Northern Nigeria.
On healthcare, he said several primary healthcare centres had been facilitated across communities, while a newly completed 100-bed Specialist Hospital was recently commissioned in the constituency.
The Speaker further outlined his legislative achievements, noting that he sponsored 74 bills before becoming Speaker, with 21 signed into law.
He added that under the leadership of the 10th House of Representatives, more than 2,000 bills had been introduced, over 180 passed, and more than 50 signed into law.
Abbas also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as courageous leadership and reforms aimed at repositioning the country.
He equally praised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for promoting peace, stability and development in the state.
The Speaker thanked APC leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, women, youths and supporters across the constituency for their backing, urging voters to support his re-election bid to sustain ongoing projects and attract more opportunities to the constituency.
