The Kaduna South Local Government Elections on Saturday was marred with a terribly low turnout of electorates.

There were reported cases of Electronic Voting Machines failure, which resulted in delay in some voting centers.

The voter apathy recorded in the Kaduna LG elections could be partly attributed to the spate of insecurity that has plagued the state in recent times.

Another reason, as stated by a resident is that, the electorates think that their votes do not count. This mindset is reasonable, given the high rate of election fraud in the country.

For instance, in Kakuri ward, very few voters came out to exercise their constitutional rights, while others watched from a distance before retreating into their homes.

The situation in the United quarters, ward five was the most extreme as no one came out to vote. Security operatives and SIECOM officials waited for voters, all to no avail.

Residents who spoke to newsmen in Kaduna South said it was better for them to stay indoors as their votes do not count.

A voter, Mrs. Juliana Adamu said, ”Even if you vote, they go back and change the figure. Our votes do not count. It is better to remain in one place, than go into the sun, to suffer.” Mrs. Adamu said.

In Ward six, Kurmin Gwari, Kakuri Kaduna, a voter, Ibrahim Danladi said he was waiting for the outcome of the elections, as voting would soon end.
