The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has been ordered to suspend its ongoing strike by the the National Industrial Court, Abuja on Monday.
The order comes after a lawsuit was filed against the association by the Federal Government to end the industrial action by the resident doctors.
The presiding Judge of the court, John Targema asked all parties in the suit to suspend all forms of hostilities pending the hearing and determination of the motion.
The resident doctors had embarked on an indefinite strike since August 1, over unpaid allowances among other issues.
The Federal Government through the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige threatened to replace the doctors or impose the “no-work, no-pay” rule.
Despite efforts by lawmakers to mediate between the federal government and NARD, the strike had continued to date.
Judge Targema said: “Having looked especially on the affidavit of extreme urgency, the grounds of the application, the affidavit in support of same and arguments of counsel for the applicant. I also weighed the submissions and arguments of counsel on the law as it stands on this application.
“It is hereby ordered that claimant/applicant and the defendant/respondent suspend all forms of hostilities forthwith pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”
