Senate President, Bukola Saraki has rejected impeachment claims against President Muhammadu Buhari

Nigeria’s Senate President Bukola Saraki has rejected rumours that the national assembly could begin an impeachment process against President Muhammadu Buhari.

Saraki who addressed the media on the blockade of the entrance of the National Assembly on Tuesday by DSS operatives and vows to ensure that democracy thrives as well as ensure justice and fairness.

NAN reports that Saraki said the incidence prevented the leadership of NASS from meeting with the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and promised that the meeting would still hold.

He appealed to the President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the new electoral bill.

Though he commended acting President Yemi Osinbajo on the sack of DSS boss Lawal Daura, he noted that the action was long overdue.

Saraki said it was not right to talk about the issues of impeachment of Buhari.

“We thank the acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, for his handling of the situation we were all confronted with yesterday.

“His decisive action went a long way towards restoring confidence and the image of our country.

“It sent a powerful message – that the DSS cannot be recklessly deployed against institutions of our democracy.

“The path of leadership is not by party, and we must commend it wherever it is found. Mr. Acting President did the right thing.

“However, the damage control so far does not address the question of how this invasion was allowed to happen in the first place,” he said.
