No doubt, Nigerian commercial banks are making waves in Africa. This stems from the regional recognition they gained in a latest poll that was organized by the Amazons Watch Magazine.

The Tanzania Women’s Bank (TWB) took the first position with 25% while Bank of Industry, Nigeria came emerged the second position with16.5%. First Bank and Guarantee Trust Bank had 16% in the poll, making them emerged as third most women supportive banks in Africa. Eco Bank Nigeria and Diamond Bank Nigeria are also at a tie in the fourth position with 8.5%, while Lift Above Poverty Organisation (LAPO) has maintained the fifth position with 8%.

The Amazons Watch Magazine launched the poll in November 17 with the aim of recognizing and promoting the Top 5 Women Supportive Banks in Emerging Economies (Africa); with programmes and services that have significantly empowered women, increasing women’s access to financial services, improving the well-being of women, and bolstering gender equality, with notable impacts, transcending beyond the individual woman level to improvement in the standard of living in the continent.

The Amazons Watch Magazine nominated 27 financial institutions for this first phase, targeted at the African region, with several criteria like; the financial institution with the best innovative financial products/ services that continuously ease and increase women’s access to finance; institutions that provide platforms for training & financial literacy programs for women; number of women impacted by the organisation’s offerings and gender inclusion in the organisation.

This poll will be organized in four phases across the regions of developing countries; Africa, Middle-East, South America and Asia.

This poll is an important tool to Amazons Watch Magazine, as it helps in promoting women supportive financial services.
