Over 80 people have been killed following violence in Benue and Taraba States much of it involving clashes between Muslim cattle herders and Christian farmers.

Muslim herdsmen, mainly of the Fulani ethnic group, and Christian farmers often clash over the use of land in remote areas of the Middle Belt region.

In November, at least 30 people from a cattle herding community, including young children, were killed in a clash in the northeastern state of Adamawa.

The violence has also shut down business activities as well as the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC.

The management of NYSC says the 2017 Batch ‘B’ stream II orientation course scheduled to hold in Benue from January 16 to February 5 has been suspended till further notice.

The scheme made the announcement on its official Facebook page in Abuja on Sunday.
