The Lagos State Government is convening electricity regulators, distribution companies, resellers, and suppliers to tackle ongoing power supply challenges as it pursues a route to round-the-clock electricity throughout the state.
The Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, stated that the stakeholders would use the 2026 Lagos Energy Summit to scrutinize structural issues in the electricity sector and devise practical solutions to enhance supply.
He made this known on Thursday during a press briefing held ahead of the three-day summit, which is scheduled to take place from November 10 to 12, 2026.
The initiative reflects an effort to resolve problems that span regulation, distribution, metering, and the provision of alternative energy.
The ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ibilola Kasumu, noted that the summit would move away from the conventional format of policy speeches and presentations by placing specific industry problems before experts for resolution.
“This summit is going to be different from the last one. It is not just going to be a talk shop. We are going to bring real problems to the table and look for solutions from different experts in this sector,” she said.
Kasumu stated that the goal was to create pathways toward a dependable, round-the-clock electricity supply in Lagos, along with the potential to offer a model that could be replicated throughout the country.
Ogunleye noted that the discussions would also cover electricity sector reforms, energy efficiency, renewable energy, metering solutions, and the development of alternative energy sources.
He revealed that the state and the federal government were in talks to clarify their respective regulatory duties and to reinforce Lagos’s control over its energy infrastructure.
The commissioner also named compressed natural gas and electric vehicles as components of the state’s clean-energy and transportation agenda.
The summit, with the theme “Lagos Energy Evolution: Transforming the Future,” will also showcase youth-driven clean-energy innovations, including projects and prototypes created by secondary school students.
According to the government, the event will also gather public officials, private investors, energy experts, academics, and innovators.
