The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday dismissed the eight-count criminal charge that the Federal Government had filed against Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of posing as the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar dismissed the charge after the Federal Government submitted an application, stating that Adeyemi would be moved to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for a fresh arraignment.
During Monday’s proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, presented the application requesting that the case be terminated.
Oyedepo informed the court that the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice had examined Adeyemi’s case file and the charge first filed by the Inspector-General of Police and had spotted certain loopholes.
He stated that the documents Adeyemi allegedly forged while running the purported agency amounted to offenses that fell under the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
The DPPF further noted that a new charge had been lodged before the FCT High Court and that Adeyemi would be arraigned again without delay.
He asked the judge to strike out the charge in line with the law.
Adeyemi’s counsel, Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, raised no objection to the application, after which Justice Umar struck out the charge.
Adeyemi, 38, was standing trial in a case numbered FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 alongside two other defendants whose whereabouts were unknown, facing charges related to conspiracy and forgery.
The two defendants reported to be at large were named as Femi, whose surname was not given, and Anu, who was likewise identified without a surname.
