Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress, has expressed grief over the passing of veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs, calling him a true representation of the excellence of the Nigerian spirit.
Obi made this known in a tribute shared on his X handle on Thursday, after the actor’s family announced his death on Wednesday.
He praised Jacobs’ impact on Nigeria’s film and creative industry as outstanding, pointing out that the actor’s career stretched over several decades in both Britain and Nigeria.
Obi remarked that Jacobs’ death serves as a reminder that life is fleeting and that individuals should use their talents and duties to make meaningful contributions to society.
He wrote, “Olu Jacobs represented the excellence of the Nigerian spirit. He exemplified this through his remarkable contributions to the film and creative industry, in a career spanning several decades across both Britain and Nigeria.”
The former governor of Anambra State remarked that Jacobs lived a life that showcased how vital talent, discipline, professionalism, and commitment to one’s craft truly are.
“His passing is once again a reminder to all of us that our time here is limited. Whatever responsibility we are entrusted with. Whatever area we are called to contribute to society, we must give it our very best and ensure that society benefits from our genius, talent and competence,” Obi stated.
He expressed his condolences to the Jacobs family, friends, colleagues and members of the Nigerian creative community.
“As we remember his life, times and passion, my thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues and the entire Nigerian creative community,” he added.
Obi also prayed that God would grant Jacobs’ loved ones and the country the strength to bear the loss.
“May the good Lord grant our father, Olu Jacobs, and all the faithful departed eternal rest. Amen,” he said.
