Anulika Onyeanusia, the 36-year-old woman arrested in Anambra State over the alleged sexual abuse of her daughters, has pleaded with Nigerians for forgiveness.
Onyeanusia was arrested a few days ago in Onitsha after she allegedly sexually assaulted her daughter using sex toys to create sexual content.
The arrest followed the circulation of a disturbing livestream involving the child, which sparked public outrage and calls for authorities to intervene and protect the minor.
During a preliminary investigation, the suspect admitted to making money from the material, with $300 said to be the highest amount she had received.
She alleged that her husband was unaware of what she had been doing to their two daughters while attributing her actions to the devil.
“It was the handiwork of the devil. I am sorry, forgive me,” she said.
“The highest I’ve made is $300. It was one American guy that was paying me to do it, sometimes $100, sometimes $300.”
The suspect’s husband is also being questioned as part of the investigation.
In a statement issued on Thursday by Tochukwu Ikenga, the police public relations officer (PPRO), the command said her arrest also led to the rescue of four children, aged 2, 3, 6 and 9, as well as the recovery of sex toys and other items relevant to the investigation.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as the command intensifies its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and the possible involvement of other persons,” the statement reads.
“The husband of the suspect is also undergoing interrogation to determine whether he has any connection with the alleged offence.”
