Tears flowed in Ilaro, Ogun State, on Monday as the remains of famous Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, well known as Ogogo, were taken to their final resting place.
An emotional atmosphere pervaded the site as family members, friends, colleagues, and sympathizers came for the 66-year-old actor’s funeral ceremonies.
A video of the funeral procession showed mourners carrying Ogogo’s remains as they went toward the location where he would be buried according to Islamic tradition.
Among those attending the burial was Ogogo’s close friend and colleague, Yinka Quadri, who was seen crying excessively as mourners tried to console him.
The heartbreaking sequence highlighted the anguish of the actor’s colleagues and loved ones as they bid him farewell.
Nollywood actresses Jide Kosoko, Faithia Balogun, Femi Adebayo, Mr. Latin, and Toyosi Adesanya had already come in Ilaro for the funeral.
Ireti Osayemi and Bisi Omo Logbalogba were also in attendance, along with other colleagues, family members, and friends.
The burial procedures took place a day after Ogogo’s remains were transported to Ilaro, his hometown, following his death on Sunday.
Ogogo died at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the age of 66, according to a burial announcement posted on the renowned actor’s Instagram page.
Kosoko had stated that the actor’s remains would be transported to Ilaro, where a lying-in-state ceremony would take place on Monday.
The Ilaro Muslim Community has also arranged a burial prayer for the legendary actor.
Ogogo died just days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, asked for medical help for their father, who was suffering stage-four cancer.
Kaira stated that doctors advised the family that they could no longer administer chemotherapy due to his illness, pushing the family to seek alternative treatment alternatives.
The actor was well-known in Nigeria’s film business, particularly for his work on Yoruba-language films.
His career stretched more than four decades, and he appeared in hundreds of films, becoming one of Yoruba cinema’s most recognizable actors.
