Four Almajiris (Qur’anic schoolchildren) were reported to have died in Kano after eating food that was thought to be tainted.
Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu, the National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, confirmed the occurrence in a statement released on Monday.
According to the statement, the students were from Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya, Kadage Sharifai, and Ungoggo Local Government Area in Kano State.
According to the statement, the sick Almajiris were transported to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical treatment after being suspected of food poisoning.
“The students, however, reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday night, August 16th, 2026,” the statement said.
The statement did not specify the type of food consumed or the substance suspected of causing the poisoning, making the specific circumstances surrounding the fatalities unknown.
It went on to claim that the deceased’s remains were buried after receiving consent from the District Head (Dagaci) and the Divisional Police Officer.
As of the time of this report, the police had not issued an official statement regarding the occurrence.
