Cameroon triumphed in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, for the first time by beating Malawi 3-0 in the 2026 final held in Rabat, Morocco.
The Indomitable Lionesses showcased a commanding first-half performance, netting all three goals before halftime to secure the match beyond Malawi’s grasp.
Marie Ngah Manga initiated the scoring, followed by Naomi Eto who increased Cameroon’s lead with an excellent turning finish.
Ngah Manga subsequently secured her second goal, extending Cameroon’s lead to a dominant 3-0 as they approached half-time.
Cameroon preserved their lead after halftime to achieve a landmark win and finally capture the continental championship after numerous close attempts.
The victory concludes a lengthy wait for Cameroon, which had earlier been the runner-up in the tournament three times.
Their latest final appearance prior to 2026 occurred in 2016, when they were defeated 1-0 by Nigeria.
Veteran forward Gabrielle Onguene, 37, participated in that 2016 final and entered the game as a substitute during second-half stoppage time in Rabat.
Her eighth appearance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations made the victory especially significant as Cameroon finally concluded their ten-year wait for the championship.
For Malawi, the final was their first participation in the WAFCON, with their remarkable journey to the title match concluding in loss.
