A US-based clothing company, HercLeon, has unveiled a T-shirt it says can remain fresh and odour-free for up to 30 days without washing.
The company’s latest product, the HercShirt V5.0, is the fifth version of its specialised T-shirt and follows HercLeon’s earlier launch of self-cleaning underwear.
According to the company, the shirt is designed to stay fresh for more than a month, even when worn heavily. The claim has attracted attention because people typically sweat more during hot weather, making frequent washing of clothes necessary.
HercLeon says the HercShirt V5.0 achieves its odour-resistant properties through seven special ingredients woven directly into the fabric rather than simply applied to its surface.
They include copper, silver, zinc, gold, volcanic ash and two undisclosed ingredients.
The company says copper helps inhibit odour-causing bacteria, while zinc neutralises sulphur compounds associated with sweating. Volcanic ash, meanwhile, is said to absorb moisture and external odours.
According to HercLeon’s Kickstarter campaign, the HercShirt V5.0 can remain fresh for more than a month under heavy use. The company also claims that reduced washing could help the shirt last longer than conventional T-shirts.
The V5.0 is expected to begin shipping in early November and will initially be available only in black. HercLeon plans to introduce navy blue, burgundy and dark green versions later next year.
The company is also offering cheaper versions. HercLeon said a $39 budget model can remain fresh for three days of heavy use, while its standard version can go for up to 14 days without washing.
