The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has alleged that a letter from his office to the State House was intercepted by Adeniyi Adeyemi, the man accused of operating the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Speaking before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the PFIPC controversy and the ₦1.3 billion allocated to the council in the 2026 Appropriation Act, Ogunjimi said the intercepted correspondence could have exposed the alleged forgery behind the council much earlier.

According to him, the Office of the Accountant-General first received a request in November 2024 on State House letterhead seeking an administrative code for the PFIPC to enable budgeting, accounting and financial reporting.

Believing the request to be genuine, the office issued the administrative code and sent its response to the State House on November 29, 2024, while copying the Budget Office of the Federation.

However, Ogunjimi told lawmakers that the reply never reached its intended destination because it was allegedly intercepted by Adeyemi.

He said if the State House had received the response, officials would have discovered that the original request for the administrative code had never been issued by the Presidency.

The Accountant-General further alleged that every document presented by the council’s promoters was forged, including a purported Act of the National Assembly and an appointment letter.

He explained that treasury officials processed the request in good faith because it appeared to have originated from the State House.

Ogunjimi also disclosed that two government officials later found working with the PFIPC had originally been deployed to the Office of the Chief Economic Adviser to the President years earlier, adding that the Treasury was unaware they had been absorbed by the council.

He said the PFIPC requested the opening of a Treasury Single Account (TSA) and two domiciliary accounts in US dollars and British pounds at the Central Bank of Nigeria for foreign investment transactions and a proposed world investment summit.

While the domiciliary accounts were approved for inflows only, the TSA request was rejected. Ogunjimi added that none of the accounts became operational because the council failed to fulfil the required conditions.

Meanwhile, the House committee has directed the Inspector-General of Police to produce Adeyemi before lawmakers on Wednesday as investigations into the alleged fake agency continue.
