At least 30 people have reportedly been killed after gunmen attacked Naridon village in Kamaru Ward of Kauru Local Government Area, Kaduna State, in the early hours of Monday.
According to reports, the attackers stormed the community at about 1am, opening fire indiscriminately on residents and forcing many to flee into nearby bushes.
Amnesty International said the assailants chased those attempting to escape, killing many in what it described as one of the deadliest attacks recorded in southern Kaduna.
The human rights organisation alleged that entire families were slaughtered inside their homes, with many residents still unaccounted for as search efforts continued.
“President Bola Tinubu claims he has repeatedly tasked security agencies to end the killings so that rural communities can go to bed with their eyes closed, but clearly nothing has changed,” Amnesty International said in a statement.
The organisation also claimed that graphic images from the community showed widespread bloodshed inside homes, adding that children were among the victims. Gong News has not independently verified these claims.
Amnesty International noted that several communities in southern Kaduna have suffered repeated attacks over the years, accusing authorities of failing to protect residents and bring perpetrators to justice.
“The spate of these killings is evidence of the failure of authorities to protect the people. The inability of authorities to bring attackers to justice is fuelling impunity,” the organisation added.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.
Police spokesperson Mansir Hassan could not be reached for comment, while calls and a text message to Ibraheem Musa, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Uba Sani, were unanswered.
