Adebayo Adelabu, the immediate former minister of power, has denied rumors that he intends to switch from the All Progressives Congress to the Allied People’s Movement, maintaining his allegiance to the ruling party.

Adelabu clarified this in a statement released on Friday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, by his media assistant, Femi Awogboro.

The remark came after rumors that Ajiboye Akande, Adelabu’s personal assistant, had met with APM members in order to help the former minister defect before the general elections of 2027.

Adelabu responded to the allegations by calling them untrue and baseless and emphasizing that neither he nor his assistant intended to leave the APC.

“He remains a committed member of the APC and continues to hold the president and national leader of the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the highest regard as his political mentor,” the statement said.

It added, “Chief Adelabu believes in the party, respects its leadership, and remains committed to the democratic process. Given his well-known decency and integrity in politics, he is always prepared to respect the legitimate decisions of the party’s national leadership.”

The former minister called on members of the public to disregard the speculation, describing it as an attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary confusion.

“Consequently, the public is urged to disregard the false narrative linking Mr. Ajiboye Akande or Chief Adebayo Adelabu to any impending defection to the APM. The rumor is baseless, mischievous, and clearly intended to create confusion where none exists,” the statement added.

Adelabu was among the aspirants who contested the recent APC governorship primary election in Oyo State but lost to the eventual winner, Senator Sharafadeen Ali.
