Cape Verde goalkeeper Josimar Dias, also known as Vozinha, has signed for Chilean football side Colo Colo following his standout performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 40-year-old shot-stopper emerged as one of the tournament’s breakthrough heroes after a string of excellent performances against eventual champions Spain and defending champions Argentina.
Although the transfer has yet to be properly completed, Colo Colo teased the signing with an image of the veteran goalkeeper’s signature curly hair.
“Bienvenido. Welcome. Bem-vindo. We look forward to seeing you at the Monumental Stadium,” the club wrote on its social media platforms on Friday.
The announcement sparked enthusiasm among Colo Colo followers and Chilean football fans, whose national team failed to qualify for a third consecutive FIFA World Cup.
According to Reuters, Aníbal Mosa, president of Blanco y Negro, the business that manages Colo Colo, said that Vozinha will fly to Chile soon to complete the move.
“Vozinha will be a Colo Colo player. In the next few days, he will travel to Chile, undergo the necessary medical examinations, and then be presented here at the Estadio Monumental,” Mosa was quoted as saying.
He stated that the goalkeeper’s World Cup performances prompted the move, while also conceding that the signing will increase the club’s commercial appeal.
Vozinha, who left Portuguese second-tier side Chaves before the World Cup, was named to FIFA’s fan-voted World Cup Dream Team after assisting tournament debutants Cape Verde to a goalless draw with eventual champions Spain and forcing eventual runners-up Argentina into extra time in the Round of 32.
The experienced goalkeeper led Cape Verde to a successful tournament debut until the African team was eliminated in the Round of 32 after losing 3-2 in extra time to Argentina.
His performances at the World Cup also drew broad global notice, with his social media following growing from less than 50,000 before the event to about 29 million.
